How to Write a Ring Rolling RFQ

How to Write a Ring Rolling RFQ

When we receive an RFQ, the first thing we check is not the requested model. We look at the ring you need to produce. A clear request helps us understand your process, select suitable equipment, and prepare a useful quotation.

A vague request creates another problem. Suppliers may quote different configurations for the same project. That makes price comparison difficult and can waste several days. A good RFQ removes that fog before the conversation starts.

1. Start With the Finished Ring

Give the complete ring dimensions

Start with the finished product, not the equipment. Provide the outer diameter (OD), inner diameter (ID), and ring height. Also include wall thickness and important profile dimensions.

For example, you might specify:

  • OD: Ø1,500 mm
  • ID: Ø1,200 mm
  • Height: 180 mm
  • Wall thickness: 150 mm
  • Profile: rectangular
  • Final tolerance: ±0.5 mm

A drawing makes this information even clearer. We recommend attaching a PDF, STEP, or DWG file when available.

Explain the ring profile

A simple rectangular ring needs different process information than a profiled ring. Your RFQ should identify steps, tapers, flanges, grooves, and other special features.

Also mention whether you need seamless rolled rings. This detail can affect tooling, process design, and machine selection.

2. Describe the Material and Starting Blank

State the material grade

Material information matters because forming resistance changes with the alloy. Include the exact grade whenever possible. Common examples include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, bearing steel, and nickel-based alloys.

We also need the material condition before rolling. Tell us whether the blank arrives hot forged, normalized, annealed, or in another condition. This helps us evaluate forming requirements more accurately.

Provide blank dimensions and weight

Do not stop at the finished dimensions. Give us the starting blank OD, ID, height, and weight. If you know the forging temperature, include that value too.

A useful RFQ might show:

  • Blank OD: Ø900 mm
  • Blank ID: Ø500 mm
  • Blank height: 300 mm
  • Blank weight: 420 kg
  • Rolling temperature: 1,050–1,150 °C

This information gives suppliers a much clearer starting point. It also prevents the classic “the machine looked large enough” problem.

3. Define Production Targets

Tell suppliers your required output

Production volume strongly affects equipment selection. State your expected pieces per hour, daily output, annual volume, or batch size.

For example:

  • Required output: 12 rings/hour
  • Daily production: 80–100 rings
  • Working schedule: 2 shifts/day
  • Annual production: 20,000 pieces

Your RFQ should also identify the product mix. One ring size requires a different production strategy from twenty different sizes.

Include quality and process targets

Production speed alone does not define a successful project. Include dimensional tolerance, surface requirements, ovality limits, and other quality targets.

If you already have process data, share it. Useful information includes rolling time, heating method, reheating limits, and previous production problems.

4. Ask for the Right Technical Parameters

Focus on force and working range

A supplier should confirm the required radial and axial rolling forces. These values help determine whether the proposed configuration can handle your actual rings.

Typical specifications can include:

  • Maximum ring OD: mm
  • Minimum ring OD: mm
  • Maximum ring height: mm
  • Maximum blank thickness: mm
  • Radial rolling force: kN
  • Axial rolling force: kN
  • Rolling speed: m/s
  • Radial motor power: kW
  • Axial motor power: kW

Published D53K specifications show why these values matter. Different models cover very different OD ranges and force levels.

Ask about controls and automation

Controls deserve their own section in the RFQ. State whether you need CNC operation, automatic rolling curves, recipe storage, data logging, or remote diagnostics.

For example, the D53K family commonly uses CNC control for radial and axial rolling. Some configurations can automatically follow programmed rolling curves.

Also ask about:

  • PLC brand
  • HMI language
  • Servo systems
  • Sensors
  • Safety interlocks
  • Alarm history
  • Data export
  • Remote support

5. Make Your Ring Rolling Machine RFQ Easy to Quote

Request a line-by-line response

Do not simply ask suppliers to “send your best price.” Ask them to respond against every RFQ item.

A useful comparison table can contain:

ItemBuyer RequirementSupplier Proposal
Ring OD500–2,500 mmConfirm
Ring height80–400 mmConfirm
MaterialAlloy steelConfirm
Radial forceRequired valueSupplier value
Axial forceRequired valueSupplier value
Production rate10 pcs/hourSupplier value
CNC controlRequiredConfirm
InstallationRequiredIncluded/Excluded

This format exposes gaps quickly. It also makes quotations much easier to compare.

Ask suppliers to list exclusions

This small detail can save a surprisingly large headache. Ask suppliers to identify exclusions, assumptions, optional items, and deviations.

Request separate information for:

  • Main machine
  • Tooling
  • Heating equipment
  • Cooling system
  • Electrical cabinet
  • Installation
  • Commissioning
  • Training
  • Spare parts
  • Warranty
  • Packaging
  • Shipping

A manufacturing-equipment RFQ works better when the scope covers specifications, testing, utilities, documentation, installation, and support.

6. Ask for Price, Delivery, and Commercial Terms

Make the quotation commercially complete

Price matters, but the lowest number does not always represent the lowest project cost. When comparing a ring rolling machine for sale, ask suppliers to separate equipment price from optional costs.

Request:

  • Equipment price
  • Tooling price
  • Spare-parts price
  • Installation cost
  • Training cost
  • Packaging cost
  • Freight estimate
  • Lead time
  • Payment terms
  • Warranty period
  • Incoterm

For the ring rolling machine price, ask what the quoted configuration actually includes. Otherwise, two suppliers may provide prices for very different scopes.

Include your delivery requirements

State the destination country and plant location. Also provide your target delivery date or required commissioning date.

This information matters because transport, installation, site preparation, and commissioning can affect the project schedule. Industrial RFQ guidance also recommends including delivery location, installation needs, Incoterms, payment terms, and warranty requirements.

7. Finish With a Practical RFQ Checklist

Use this checklist before sending

Before contacting ring rolling machine manufacturers, we recommend checking the following:

  • Finished OD, ID, and height
  • Wall thickness
  • Ring profile drawing
  • Material grade
  • Blank dimensions
  • Blank weight
  • Rolling temperature
  • Required production rate
  • Annual production
  • Dimensional tolerances
  • Radial force requirement
  • Axial force requirement
  • CNC and automation requirements
  • Tooling requirements
  • Factory utilities
  • Installation requirements
  • Delivery location
  • Target delivery date
  • Warranty expectations
  • Spare-parts requirements

This checklist can turn a short email into a useful engineering document. It also helps ring rolling machine manufacturers in China understand your project without several rounds of questions.

Send data before asking for a model

We believe buyers should describe the application before requesting a model number. For example, do not simply write “Please quote D53K.” Instead, provide your ring dimensions, material, blank data, output, and quality requirements.

The D53K designation covers multiple configurations. Published tables show models ranging from smaller systems to machines designed for rings reaching several meters in diameter.

At Shandong Ring Rolling Tech, we prefer this engineering-first approach. It helps us recommend a suitable configuration instead of forcing your production requirements into a catalog number.

Final Thoughts

A good RFQ does more than request a price. It gives the manufacturer enough information to understand your product, process, production target, and factory conditions.

If you are comparing ring rolling machine manufacturers, send the finished ring data first. Then discuss forces, controls, tooling, automation, delivery, and service.

That approach makes quotations easier to compare. More importantly, it reduces unpleasant surprises after the purchase order arrives.
